Bourgade Catholic Recognized at Arizona Diamondbacks Game
For the 11th consecutive year, Bourgade Catholic High School is the top school with participation in the Nolan Ryan Division of the United Blood Drive Challenge. On Tuesday, May 12, Bourgade Catholic was recognized in the pre-game show of the Diamondbacks game at Chase Field and we received our 11th banner to add to the collection in Tepsic Gymnasium. Bourgade Catholic is the only school in the state of Arizona with the complete collection! Over 22,000 units of blood were donated by high school students throughout the state of Arizona last year. Congratulations to all the donors, and a special thanks to Sr. Christi Laudolff for her leadership in this fantastic cause!
Bourgade Catholic, United Blood Service Team Up to Make History
On July 28, 2008 a new law went into effect that allowed 16-year olds to donate blood for the first time. A number of Bourgade Catholic students took advantage of this opportunity to help make history. United Blood Services teamed up with Bourgade Catholic to allow some of our own students to become Arizona's first 16-year old donors and our community's youngest heroes. These history-making Golden Eagles included Brian MacCleary, Zackary O'Meara, Fernando Perez, and Michael Weikamp. Brian, who just turned 16 twelve days earlier, became the youngest individual to ever donate blood in the state of Arizona. A special thanks to Sr. Christi and Mary Ann Burns for helping organize the event. Sr. Christi dedicates an enormous amount of time to all the school's blood drive efforts, and is the main reason Bourgade Catholic has been recognized as such a key component in this great cause. Without Sr. Christi, Bourgade Catholic would not be on the top of the list when it comes to blood donations in Arizona. In addition, we thank our mascot Ashley Fagnani, also 16, who helped out by encouraging other 16 year olds to give blood.
