Boy's Basketball Coaches
Shelton Simmons, Head Varsity Coach
Coach Simmons is a 1992 graduate of Granada Hills High School (Cali.) . Throughout high school, Coach Simmons played basketball and during his career, he earned two Varsity Letters. Coach Simmons was chosen to an All Valley Team where he was selected as team captain and MVP his senior year. Following his high school career, Coach Simmons went to L.A Harbor Community College, earning 1st team All-League Honors. His sophomore year, he was named South Bay and Team MVP. After earning his AA degree, he received a basketball scholarship to Grand Canyon University (Earning his B.S and currently finishing up his Masters in Special ED).
Coach Simmons enters his 1st season at the helm of the Golden Eagles Boy's Basketball program. He has spent his career coaching basketball at various levels, having served as a Head Coach for the Varsity, JV and freshman levels at Tolleson High School. Most recently, Coach Simmons served as an Assistant Coach at both Chandler-Gilbert Community College and Glendale Community College. He would later be named the Head Coach at Glendale Community College.
Todd Ahern, Head JV Coach
Coach Todd Ahern is in his first year as a member of the Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagle Basketball Staff. Coach Ahern is a native of Arizona and is a product of the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic schools. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glendale, and then attended St. Mary’s High School. Coach Ahern attended Northern Arizona University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education. He is now a special education teacher at Thunderbird High School.
His coaching career started at the catholic grade school level with over ten years of experience including stops at St. Gregory’s and his alma mater, Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Coach Ahern has coached football and basketball at the high school level. He served as a Varsity assistant football coach at NFL Yet Academy where he coached Special Teams as well as offensive and defensive lines. At St. Mary’s High School, he served as JV assistant and handled the offensive and defensive lines. He is currently serving as the Freshman Head Coach at Thunderbird High School. Coach Ahern also coached girls’ basketball at St. Mary’s High School. At St. Mary’s, Coach Ahern served as a JV assistant, freshman and JV head coach, and varsity assistant during the teams run to five straight state championship titles.
Daryl Blowers, Assistant JV Coach
Coach Daryl Blowers is in his second year as the Assistant JV Coach at Bourgade Catholic High School. He is a graduate of Buffalo State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, minoring in Coaching. He also has earned four Masters of Science Degrees in Educational Administration, Educational Curriculum and Instruction Elementary, Educational Curriculum and Instruction Secondary, and Professional Learning Communities.
Coach Blowers has 20+ years of experience coaching basketball, baseball, football, and hockey at the elementary and high school levels. During this time he was an elementary teacher, teaching fourth-eighth grade.
Pursuing victory with honor is a mission that is upheld by Coach Blowers. He is very excited to play a vital role in the development of young men as servant leaders for the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. He believes athletics can be used to teach lessons that can be used to help student athletes fulfill their calling to the service of the Lord.
Coach Blowers is married to his beautiful wife Susan, and they have three incredible children, Darlene, a teacher at St. Jerome, and Jacob and Eric, who are actively involved Bourgade Catholic Students.
