Marcel Lopez, Varsity Head Coach
Marcel Lopez is a Phoenix native, growing up in the Catholic school system. He attended St. Agnes School from K-8th grade and high school at St. Mary’s Catholic High School, class of 1998, where he was part of the 1995 5A state champion football team. Coach Lopez earned his degree in English from the University of Arizona and began his teaching career immediately after. He started his coaching career in 2004 when he started up the NFL YET football program, a charter school in South Phoenix. During his ten years coaching there, Coach Lopez participated in 5 state championships, winning two of them. In 2014 he made the move to teach and coach at his alma mater, St. Mary’s High School. He served as the interim head coach for one season and spent the rest of his time as the offensive coordinator. Coach Lopez comes to Bourgade Catholic with the goals of building on the rich history of Golden Eagles football and creating a culture of success for our athletes. Coach Lopez also serves as an English teacher for our 11th grade students.
Gabriel Macias, Assistant Varsity Head Coach
Gabriel Macias is entering his first season with the Golden Eagles, and his 10th season coaching high school football. Coach Macias serves as the Special Teams Coordinator and Running Backs Coach this season. Prior to Bourgade High School, Coach Macias was the Assistant Special Teams and Linebackers Coach at St. Mary’s High School under Coach Marcel Lopez. Before Coach Macias moved to St. Mary’s, he coached at NFL YET Academy as a Special Teams Coordinator in 2013 winning a state championship with Coach Lopez. Coach Macias earned his Master’s of Education in Administration and Supervision from University of Phoenix in 2015, Masters in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University in 2010 and his Bachelor of Science from The University of Texas at El Paso in 2005, where he played football.
