Jerry Santiago Chavez is a native of Phoenix, AZ and attended St. Mary's Catholic High School from 1986-1990, where he played football all four years. Immediately following graduation, Coach Chavez enlisted in the United States Army, where he served proudly as a U.S. Paratrooper at Fort Bragg, NC. He also served as a Military Police Officer and is a Gulf War Veteran. After completing his service in the Army, he began his coaching career starting with youth soccer in 1998. He continued coaching youth baseball as a hitting coach and assistant coach. In 2015 he began coaching St. Mary's Catholic High School Girl's Varsity Soccer, leading them to their first win and shut out in two seasons. Coach Chavez has three children who are avid athletes ranging from his son Damian, who is a competitive power lifter, Zachary who will begin his high school baseball career as a freshman at Valley Vista High School, and Zoey, who recently began her soccer career in the City of Surprise Youth Soccer Program.
Victor Rodriguez Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Victor Rodriguez is an accomplished, athletic training and coaching professional. With over 24 years of experience, Coach Rodriguez has taken developing high school athletic programs and molded them into competitive teams. In 1985, Coach Rodriguez joined the United States Marine Corps and enjoyed a distinguished career that has been the foundation of his training program and lifelong commitment to fitness. He has perfected his training approach which develops and encourages athletes’ critical thinking, adaptability and drive to overcome fear and obstacles. After USMC, he founded an athletic training program designed to help athletes develop speed and agility. His commitment to developing athletes’ to their highest individual potential led him to team sports coaching.
Coach Rodriguez maintains his competitive edge by staying up to date with the latest safety and training certifications. He is currently certified in USA Football and Interscholastic coaching; Strength and Conditioning, USA Football U14 Coaching; High School HUF; Football, Baseball, Basketball, Softball, and Wrestling, Cross Country/Track coaching; First Aid/CPR and Safety; Fundamentals of Coaching; and Concussion Protocols.
DJ Ortiz Head Junior Varsity Coach
Coach DJ Ortiz will be entering his second year as a member of the Bourgade Catholic Golden Eagle Football Staff. Coach Ortiz is a native of Arizona and is a product of the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Schools. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glendale and was a member of the Bourgade Catholic graduating class of 2005 where he played football, basketball, and track. Ortiz was voted as Christian Athlete of the Year for 2005, served as a Varsity Football Captain, and was named as Honorable Mention to the 2A All Metro Region Football Team.
Coach Ortiz attended Arizona State University where he received his bachelor’s degree in 2010. He is now a history teacher and Athletic Director at Saint Gregory’s Catholic School. Since 2006, Coach Ortiz has coached football and basketball at both the junior high and high school levels. He has served as a Varsity Assistant Football coach at schools throughout Arizona, including Westwind Preparatory Academy where he coached Special Teams, Offensive and Defensive Line and Inside Linebackers, North High School where he served as JV Head Coach and handled Varsity Running Backs, and Bourgade Catholic where he is currently serving as the JV Head Coach. He has also served as an Offensive Coordinator in the Arizona Football League for the Cave Creek Dragons.
Mike Espinoza Assistant Junior Varsity Coach
Michael Espinoza is in his first year with The Golden Eagles football program. Coach Espinoza is a native of Phoenix, Arizona and attended Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Grade School. He then attended St. Mary's High School, where he played football and baseball. Following high school, he was blessed to receive a scholarship to play baseball at Grand Canyon University. Mike has coached flag football at Papago Elementary as well as baseball and softball at Central High School. Mike Espinoza is the husband of Melinda Espinoza, Bourgade Catholic's Varsity Volleyball Coach; they have four children.
Ike Gomez Assistant Junior Varsity Coach
Ike Gomez is in his first season with the Bourgade Catholic High School football program. He is a native of Phoenix, Arizona, where he grew up playing sports. Gomez attended St. Mary’s High School, and played football, basketball, and baseball. He played on the St. Mary’s 1991 AIA State Football Championship team as a quarterback and defensive back. After graduating from St. Mary’s, he received a collegiate scholarship to play football at New Mexico State University, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Gomez has 10 years of coaching experience, which includes youth football, baseball, softball, basketball, and high school softball. Gomez resides in Phoenix with his two young daughters, Isabella and Victoria.
Joshua Bautista Assistant Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Joshua Bautista graduated from high school at Veritas Preparatory Academy in 2011. At Veritas, he played varsity football for four years and ran track and field for two years. Afterwards, Coach Bautista received his Associates degree from Scottsdale Community College and then went on to the University of Mary, Tempe campus, earning his Bachelors degree in Theological Studies. Coach Bautista is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Coaching Education and Athletic Development. He has been coaching since he left high school including a stint at Veritas Prep as the JV Head Defensive Coordinator; his defense only allowed 12 points per game on average. Bautista would later follow Coach Victor Rodriguez into the realm of junior high baseball and then onto several other sports and coaching positions. Coach Bautista has been married for over a year.
