Student AmbassadorsFall "Shadow" Program A Success
December 3rd marked the end of the Bourgade Catholic Shadow Program for fall 2010. Twenty-nine 8th grade students from 10 Valley grade schools spent a Friday “shadowing” a host Ambassador. The Ambassador calls their Shadow a day or two before they are expected on campus to introduce themselves, and they meet in the lobby of the Student Services Building before school. It is then off to the Ambassador’s normal Friday rotation of classes, lunch, and possibly an assembly.
The Ambassador makes every effort to introduce their shadow to our coaches and moderators of activities which interest the 8th grader. Pictured are Bourgade Catholic Ambassador Junior Mary Calderon and "Shadow" Stephanie Lebo, from St. Francis Xavier School. Each year, between 50-60 8th grade students participate in the Shadow Program. Our current Freshman Class includes 39 students who enjoyed a Shadow Day on the BC campus. Every effort is made to match the "shadow" with an Ambassador with similar interests by Mrs. Angela Rohde, Moderator of the BCHS Ambassador Corps. Parents of current 8th grade students are encouraged to contact Mrs. Rohde at 602-973-4000 X 126 or arohde@bourgade.org to sign their student up for a Shadow Day during the spring semester. We all have a duty to spread the word about Bourgade Catholic High School, but Student Ambassadors take a more active and formal role in promoting our school to others. Duties of Ambassadors include giving tours and talking with campus visitors at events such as Open House as well as going to other locations to promote Bourgade Catholic. Ambassadors receive special training to become more knowledgeable about our school. The Shadow Day experience is also very important to the growth of Bourgade Catholic and Ambassadors are closely associated with the Shadow Program. Ambassadors help ensure that a visiting student is welcomed to our campus and introduced to appropriate club moderators and coaches. It is also very helpful to be involved in various campus and community activities. Students interested in becoming Ambassadors must complete an application process in the spring.
