Student of the Month
Bourgade Catholic High School honors students each month that have exhibited great strength in a set of identified character traits. Building excellent character in our students is important to the teachers and staff at Bourgade Catholic High School.
Students are nominated each month by students, faculty, staff and administration based on the monthly trait. Faculty, staff and administration then vote on the student that best exemplifies the trait. We honor the student of the month at the next all school liturgy with a certificate, key chain, and $50 in cash. The student will also have a special Student of the Month parking space for the next month and have their picture posted on this webpage.
Below is a list of the character traits for each month of the 2016-2017 school year. We hope this will help you and your student understand the traits we look for when the students are chosen each month.
William Batson - One of his teachers says this about William "Every time I see William; I think courage of convictions. He is happy to say what he is thinking in any situation, and happy to defend his views, while in the same breath also happy to consider opposing viewpoints. While occasionally he gets stuck arguing for the sake of arguing, the truth is he has gotten good at arguing because he has tremendous intellectual courage.
Elizabeth Cardenas Reyes - Elizabeth is a person who lives out her faith through her actions. She once said in class that "equality is a movement, not a state of being." She feels a deep sense of social justice burning inside her, and she, in His Name, is inspired to make this world a more just, safe, and sustainable society. She is a person who lives her life committed to the idea of doing good and doing right. When she engages in intellectual pursuits related to social justice, she is inspiring to her teachers and classmates alike.
Baileigh Thompson is the definition of responsible! As a leader in one of our clubs, Baileigh shows up, follows through, and motivates other club members to complete tasks. Her role as an executive officer is taken seriously and many projects have been accomplished this year due to her enthusiasm. She is a perfectionist and always does the BEST of her ability. What more could we ask from a student, a club president or TA? Baileigh you are the genuine article!
Samantha Sahagun lives in gratitude each and every day and has faced trials in her life that most of us will never have to face. She works hard to do well academically and shows respect and gratitude for all the time and patience her teachers show her; she shows this gratitude in the quality of work she produces and the dedication to her school work. She is grateful for all the praise she receives, but she also graciously accepts any criticism she hears constructive or otherwise because that is who she is.
Luis Lopez The teacher that nominated Luis had this to say about him: "I have had the extreme pleasure of having Luis in several class over the years and I continue to be impressed with his persistence and kind-heartedness to his classmates and to his teachers. Luis is a stellar student who patiently waits and works while others find distractions, or excuses. Luis is extremely creative and sometime gets stumped by road blocks such as when he’s not allowed to include an automobile in his art, but he perseveres and succeeds."
Christina Rodriguez is a hard working student and continues to astonish with the work ethic and the optimistic attitude she has about school. We all face challenges, but one would never know Christina does because of the effervescent personality, and the instinct for knowing that everything will be alright.
Christina is incredibly generous with her time. On many occasions through the years she has offered to assist others out of the goodness of her heart, with no expectation in return. If you’ve had the pleasure of teaching, or coaching this young lady, then you know she’s one of the brightest stars in the sky!
In Colossians 3:12 it says “Because you are God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves, with heartfelt mercy, with kindness, humility, meekness and patience.” Mary is a student that shows kindness in her words and actions.
Every time Mary speaks it is always gentle and sympathetic. She is friendly to others and is merciful to those who criticize. Mary is the perfect embodiment of kindness.
Emmanuel Bearce - This young scholar is always patient and understanding when things don't go the way they expected. If others say things in jest – which sometimes are hurtful – this young man is not one to hold a grudge. Manny is easy going and the center of compassion.
