Volunteer & Donation Opportunities
Any person who wishes to volunteer at Bourgade Catholic High School must be in compliance with the Safe Environment Training Regulations issued by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix Office of Child and Youth Protection and the Safe Environment Training Office.
The process for being in compliance with Safe Environment Training is as follows:
The foundations class is called “Protecting God's Children.” It is a 3 hour educational session where individuals will learn guidelines for their interaction with minors, and how to respond to boundary violations or if they suspect abuse. Individuals will also learn myths and facts about sexual abuse, detailed warning signs to watch for in adults who may abuse, and how to identify children who may have been abused. This class is for any volunteer who has NOT TAKEN the 3 hour foundations class before. This 3 hour class supersedes SET I and SET II.
Annual Renewal of Safe Environment Training (SET)
The SET year is from July 1 – June 30. This means that every year, on or after July 1, every volunteer must register and complete a renewal class in order to remain in compliance. Renewal classes can only be taken AFTER the foundations class has been taken AND recorded in the location where the class took place. Annual renewal may be done onsite at any location that offers it or it may be done online.
Safe Environment Online Database
When a person completes the foundations course, the local coordinator where the course was taken inputs their information into an online database. It is important that you put the most up to date information on your volunteer application and that you input the same information into the website when you go to register for a renewal class.
Safe Environment Office Website
The official website for the SET Office is www.safeenvironmenttraining.org. It is recommended that any volunteer register for a class through the website to facilitate the recording process. Please click on “Instructions for Registering” for further information on registering online.
A volunteer does not need to take the foundations class or an onsite renewal class at Bourgade Catholic High School. A volunteer may choose to register for a class at a location closer to them or at a location that offers the class at a time more convenient for them. When this is the case, it is important that the volunteer input Bourgade Catholic High School as one of the locations for volunteer ministry.
