On Monday, October 3rd BC kicks off Phase One of our annual Walk a Thon. This is a major fundraising event for Bourgade Catholic HIgh School; a fundrasing event in which the students of Bourgade Catholic are given the opportunity to contribute to the cost of thier own education by raising money to:
- provide funds for the school operating budget, and - to raise money in support of BC's annual Mission Trip. Phase One is also called How to Earn a Rock 'n Walk a Thon T-shirt because participating in Phase One is the ONLY way to obtain one of these coveted items. The 2011 version will contain the original artwork of one of our students (whose name will be revealed at Friday's Pep Rally). Plus, you may wear the 2011 Rock 'n Walk a Thon T-shirt on Walk a Thon day (November 10th). No Rock 'n Walk a Thon shirt? You are required to be in your school uniform shirt for the Walk a Thon. The Advancement Office, in conjunction with the administration, faculty, staff, and the student body, sponsors an annual Walk-A-Thon. Each student is responsible for securing a set dollar amount in contributions from their respective sponsors. Sponsors can be family, friends, neighbors, and organizations. Last year, the students of Bourgade Catholic raised over $33,000 in support of the Walk-A-Thon. The actual day of the event the students walk a route that covers a 6 mile course around the surrounding Bourgade Catholic neighborhood. Afterwards, they return to school where they enjoy a barbeque lunch and an early dismissal. Last year a portion of our Walk-A-Thon funds were designated for the school's Mission Trip. Approximately 60-70 students, parents, and faculty traveld to the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation to help construct homes for two families. Over the past twelve years a total of 28 new homes have been constructed for various families throughout Mexico and Arizona. Every year we count on the parents of Bourgade Catholic to help make our event a success. Leading up to the event, we encourage parents to help secure some of the various PRIZES that are awarded to the students who go over and above expectations. A majority of the volunteering duties involve participation on the actual day of the event. Some of these roles include setting up tables and chairs throughout the course, Check Point Captains who monitor the students progress, and cooks for the barbeque. In addition, we ask parents to help provide bottled water and secure donations of food and snacks for the students when they complete the Walk-A-Thon. Contact Lisa Prieto at lprieto@bourgade.org or 602-973-4000 X 150 to volunteer.
