Mike Briguglio, Head Varsity Coach
Raised in Sterling Heights, Michigan, Coach Briguglio participated in football, basketball and baseball for Sterling Heights High School, serving as captain of the football and baseball teams, in addition to earning all-conference honors in football and all-state honors in baseball. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Michigan, where he was a member of the baseball team for two seasons.
Coach Briguglio begins his 36th season as a head varsity baseball coach. Overall, his teams have compiled 752 wins versus 287 losses for a .724 winning percentage. In 35 seasons, 16 teams have achieved a number 1 state ranking, 35 teams have made the playoffs, including 19 state elite eight appearances, 16 state final four appearances, 12 region championships, 3 state runner-up finishes and 4 state championships.
Coach Briguglio has been named region coach of the year nine times, 1983, 1987, 1993, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2015. In 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2013, he was named Arizona Baseball Coaches Association 3A State Coach of the Year. In addition, Coach Briguglio was named The Arizona Republic’s 1A-3A State Coach of the Year in 2001. He was also named the Arizona Republic's Northeast Valley, Class 1A-5A, Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2002.
In 2009, Coach Briguglio had the distinct honor of being inducted into the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
With a strong commitment to the development of each player, Coach Briguglio has sent over three-dozen players to play college baseball, with a few making it to the professional ranks.
Pat Gammill, Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Pat Gammill has been a high school baseball coach in the state of Arizona for 29 years. He started his coaching career as the head freshman and junior varsity coach at Arcadia High School where he coached for four years before moving on to a number of other Arizona schools during his career, including: Chaparral High School, Buckeye High School, Mohave High School and River Valley High School. From 1995-1999, Coach Gammill took a hiatus from baseball and focused on coaching football at River Valley before continuing his baseball coaching career at Red Mountain High School. Coach Gammill then began teaching and coaching at Fountain Hills High School in the 2003 and would remain until this year.
Coach Pat Gammill has been a part of two state championship teams at Fountain Hills High School (2004, & 2013) and three state runner up teams; two at Fountain Hills in 2005 and 2006, and one at Chaparral High School in 1989. He has worked with Jerry Dawson (Chaparral HS), Garye LaFevers (Buckeye HS) and Mike Briguglio (Bourgade Catholic HS), all three being members of the Arizona Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. During his long baseball coaching career, Coach Gammill has had the pleasure of coaching two MLB players including, long-time beloved White Sox first baseman, Paul Konerko, and Brian Bannister, two former MLB players.
Gabe Laborin '95, Head Junior Varsity Coach
Coach Gabriel Laborin grew up in the Granada neighborhood just a mile away from Bourgade Catholic. He attended St. Vincent de Paul Elementary while playing several youth sports including soccer, pop warner football, Little League and club baseball. Gabe is a proud Alumni (’95) of Bourgade Catholic where he played Baseball and was twice selected to the All-State team. He later played baseball at Phoenix College.
Gabe returns to Bourgade Catholic as the new JV Head Coach. He brings with him more than 10 years of experience as a coach at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Elementary, and other youth leagues, as well as experience in umpiring and private/group instruction. Coach Laborin resides in Phoenix with his wife, Nicole and their 6 children. He is excited about the upcoming baseball season and contributing to the success of Bourgade Catholic High School Athletics.
